Battery Issues
Perhaps the faultiest issues of mobility scooters are related with battery. The ebb and flow of constant charging and discharging makes the battery weak. Therefore, experts recommend changing batteries after some years so that your drive remains smooth.
These days, although most modern portable scooters for adults indicate a warning through their sensors that you have utilized this battery for long enough – It is now time to get a new one. But, what if your model doesn’t support this feature?
To debug the battery issues, check the battery connections. Sometimes there is no issue. Only connections are mismanaged and this makes problems in your vehicle. Next, take a multi meter and check the voltages across points. If battery voltage is less than 11.8, it means that 25% of battery is charged. If battery fails to charge further, it may be faulty and now it is time to replace it for good.

Tire Problems
Portable scooters for adults generally come with two types of tires:
- Solid tires
- Pneumatic tires
It is recommended to get pneumatic tires because of their comfort. Tires of scooters can be subjected to faulty behavior, either when the tube gets punctured or rubber gets worn out from constant usage.
Experts recommend checking the condition of your tires before your drive, so if you spot tire cracking patterns or damaged firmness, it is time to say goodbye to the old tires and get new ones.
NOTE: If you go for routine service of mobile scooters, you won’t have to deal with such problems. If tires go unattended for so long, they may fail at real time driving, causing an accident.

Motor Problems
Although motors provided are very reliable but with a passage of time, they start deteriorating. Sometimes they are problematic because you don’t care about the engine oil and sometimes a part of inner machinery breaks away, causing problems in the system.
The good thing is that motors are not expensive and for a small amount of cash, you can repair them via skilled mobility scooter technicians.

Potentiometer Problems
Sometimes, portable scooters for adults suffer from irregular change of speed. The speed is changed itself and the driver gets confused.
Most probably, this is the fault of a potentiometer. A simple lever is responsible for moving forwards and backwards through your potentiometer and with a faulty potentiometer at your disposal, the lever doesn’t work correctly. This is mainly due to corrosion.
If you have some electrical experience, you can fix them up yourself. Potentiometers are cheap to buy and cheaper to fix.
-
Ignition Problems
Similar case to potentiometers, with them being exposed most of the time, they get rust and make the ignition key break away from the joint. Tweezers can be used to take out the broken key from the ignition socket.
If key is un-removable, take a needle nosed pliers, twisting the head of ignition key, allowing you to start the scooter.
